Importing Contacts To Gmail

While checking my Gmail Account I came across a new feature of Gmail. Now 'Gmail' let you to 'Import mail & Contacts' from other mail services. Its a great feature for those who are thinking to switch to Gmail from other email service. People now import their all contacts and mail also to gmail from almost 79 mail client on web, list includes leading email provider like 'Yahoo Mail, Hot Mail, Aol Mail, Lycos, MSN' etc....and this list will gonna increase slowly. This is still in beta version and will improve as time goes.

One can see in screen shot; that it is a new feature from Gmail team.Google says that till now this function is not available to Google Apps customers.

Step 1:

1. Click the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner of your inbox, then select Mail settings.
2. Under the Accounts and Import tab, click the Import mail and contacts button.

As you clicks 'Import mail & contacts' button a new window will open; here you need to submitt the email address that you want to import email and contacts from.

Once you submitt email ID then click 'Continue' 

Now enter the password of your other email account from which you want to import the contacts.!!! (Here you need to trust the Gmail for safety of your password)

Once you submitted your password a dialog box where Gmail will give you 4 option to perform

1. Import contacts
2. Import mail
3. Import mail upto next 30 days
4. Add label to all imported mail 

Hmm....thats it! You have done it .....just click 'OK' now. 

In this step you need not to do anything because Gmail start to import all your contacts and mail in background.

You can check the status of your import by clicking the Accounts and Import tab on the Settings page.
